Open Minds is a fully updated, 6‑level primary English course designed to nurture confident, curious and capable learners. More than a language programme, it empowers children with the skills they need to thrive in a constantly changing world. Built on the latest educational research, the course combines clear language progression, meaningful real-life contexts, and a strong focus on wellbeing, values and global citizenship. Students grow academically, socially and emotionally—while teachers enjoy a structured, ready-to-use programme that supports every learner in mixed-ability classrooms. Across the six levels, children follow real and relatable characters—supported by lively animated friends—who guide them through stories, videos, projects and purposeful tasks that spark curiosity and make learning English meaningful. Learning that shapes confident, curious and capable children 5
By combining clear structure with creative freedom, the course ensures that learners do not simply study English—they use it, enjoy it and grow through it. Teaching with purpose in Open Minds means: A strong focus on emotional wellbeing, helping children regulate emotions, build positive relationships and thrive in the classroom. Clear learning objectives that make progress visible and understandable for learners and families. Meaningful learning rooted in real-life situations that children recognise and care about. Purposeful tasks that develop resilience, autonomy, collaboration and social skills alongside language. Festivals, projects and cultural scripts that broaden horizons and foster curiosity, empathy and global awareness. Language learning that matters At the heart of Open Minds is the belief that children learn best when learning has purpose, direction and emotional meaning. English becomes a tool for expression, reflection and connection—supporting learners not only as students, but as developing individuals.
A complete six-level course leading learners to A1+ CEFR, with carefully managed progression and no artificial jumps between cycles. A holistic, whole-child approach, where Social and Emotional Learning, creativity, empathy, collaboration and mindfulness are embedded into everyday classroom practice. 3 0–35 videos per level, including animated stories, phonics with TPR, culture videos with real children, Grammar Genies animations, presentation-skills clips and STEAM experiment videos. The Learning Situation in 6 steps, a fully structured and age-appropriate teaching sequence that ensures coherence, purpose and accessibility— far more than a label, it is a carefully planned methodology. What makes Open Minds different Open Minds is defined by a coherent teaching approach that evolves with learners and supports teachers at every step.
STEAM and inquiry-based learning, encouraging hands-on experimentation, prediction, reflection and creative output, so language becomes a vehicle for thinking. A plurilingual approach, helping learners make connections between English and their own languages to strengthen confidence and metalinguistic awareness. M eaningful integration of the SDGs, with a clear developmental progression: Levels 1–2: Sustainable society Levels 3–4: Sustainable environment Levels 5–6: Sustainable economy and global action D esigned for diversity, with rich Teacher’s Resources offering multiple access points, flipped learning options, higher-and lower-order thinking tasks and mixed-ability worksheets. An innovative Teacher’s Book, with a “hit-the-ground-running” design that clearly distinguishes essential content from extension activities—saving preparation time while respecting teacher expertise. This methodological consistency ensures that learning is cumulative, purposeful and meaningful—year after year.
Meet the characters One of the core principles of Open Minds is that children change—and so should their learning experience. Content, language, cognitive demand and emotional focus are carefully adapted to each stage of primary development. This evolving cast and structure ensure age-appropriate themes, increasingly complex thinking and progressive communication challenges, maintaining motivation and relevance throughout the primary years. Levels 1–2 Learners meet Tom and Lucy, supported by animated characters who introduce English through stories, movement and hands-on activities. At this stage, learning is sensory, playful and highly supported, helping children build confidence and positive attitudes towards English. Levels 3–4 Learners follow Ava and Robin in cultural and pronunciation videos, while animated characters continue to guide them through familiar, everyday situations. Grammar becomes more explicit, with the help of the Grammar Genies, making abstract concepts accessible, memorable and engaging. Levels 5–6 Learners work with a diverse group of exchange students and new characters, reflecting their growing awareness of the wider world. Real communication, cultural exploration and more sophisticated language use are foregrounded, with grammar and skills support adapted to the cognitive and emotional needs of older primary students.
