5 Eclipses An eclipse happens when a planet or a moon blocks the Sun's light. On Earth, we can experience two kinds of eclipses: solar eclipses and lunar eclipses. Tides The tide is the regular rise and fall of the sea level. It is caused by the Moon's gravitational pull on the Earth. There are about six hours between a high tide and a low tide. LUNAR ECLIPSE The Earth is between the Sun and the Moon. The Moon passes through the Earth's shadow. From the Earth, it looks like the Moon is gradually disappearing. SOLAR ECLIPSES The Moon is between the Sun and the Earth. Part of the Earth passes through the Moon's shadow. From the Earth, it looks like the Sun is going dark. It is low tide when the water falls to its lowest level. It is high tide when the water has risen to its highest level.
